One of the absolute best things about Canada would have to be just how diverse we are as a country. The vibes in beautiful British Columbia are totally different from what you'll get in Alberta, or Saskatchewan, similar to how life in Toronto is absolutely nothing like life in Newfoundland - it's just a fact. One of the many great things about diversity is that it makes sure wherever you go, you're always entertained. If you've ever been lucky enough to visit the stunning east coast of Canada, you'll know exactly what I mean. Here are five famous Canadians born in the Maritimes that you'll absolutely love.

If you've ever met someone from out east, you can say with confidence that the rumours are true; Maritimers are, in fact, some of the nicest people you'll ever meet. As it turns out, there are also quite a few celebrities that were born and bred on Canada's other coast! Some of the world's best and most renowned hockey players, incredibly talented actresses, Playboy models, and even Grammy award-winning singers were all born in places like Nova Scotia and Newfoundland. Eat your heart out, Hollywood.

Sidney Crosby

Even if you're not a huge hockey fan, you're probably heard the name Sidney Crosby at least once in your life. The star hockey player was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and before his NHL career started, he attended Astral Drive Junior School where he was a straight-A student. Crosby then graduated from Harrison Trimble High School in 2005 and is still very active in the Nova Scotia community.

Martha MacIssac

If you've ever seen Superbad, then you definitely know Martha MacIssac. The actress was born in Prince Edward Island and got her start in the industry at the age of 14. She played the role of Becca in Superbad, but has also appeared in The Last House on the LeftUnicorn Store, and most recently, What Keeps You Alive

Shannon Tweed-Simmons

A lot of people know Shannon Tweed as the wife of rockstar Gene Simmons, but she's lived a pretty noteworthy life herself. Tweed was born in Placentia, Newfoundland, but later moved to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan after her father fell into a coma. She began competing in beauty pageants, and eventually went on to win third-runner up in the 1978 Miss Ottawa pageant.

Ellen Page

Canadian actress Ellen Page was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia in 1987. She had her first stint in front of the camera at age ten in the movie Pit Pony, and over the years she's built up quite the resume. JunoWhip It, and Inception are just a few of the films Page has been seen in throughout her career. The actress is also a member of the LGBTQ+ community and is married to Canadian choreographer Emma Portner.

Sarah McLachlan

Like a few others on this list, Canadian singer Sarah McLachlan was also born in Halifax, Nova Scotia. McLachlan found love for music at a young age and was eventually discovered during her time at Dalhousie University. The singer has gone on to receive two Grammy's and four Juno Awards.
