Kim Kardashian Just Revamped The Canadian Tuxedo & We’re Kind Of Here For It (PHOTOS)
She debuted the look at a gala last night
Celebrities adding their own twist to the typical Canadian tuxedo outfit isn't anything new, but leave it to the Kardashian clan to add their own twist and make the outfit look totally unique. The typical Canadian tuxedo consists of an oversized denim jacket paired with denim jeans usually of the same colour. Back in 2001, Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake sported a truly iconic Canadian tuxedo outfit and Spears shocked us when she turned the normally two-piece outfit into a long gown. Since then, other celebs are sometimes seen out and about or at events wearing the classic look. But Kim Kardashian's Canadian tuxedo look is totally revamped and iconic.
Kardashian debuted the look at the WSJ Magazine 2019 Innovator Awards last night and she kind of stole the show with it. She wore an off the shoulder top made of dark denim material that went tight at the waist and featured puffy balloon sleeves. And she paired that with tight pants made out of matching denim that shifted into shiny navy blue leather at the mid-thigh area. Normally with cold shoulder tops, women wear blingy jewelry in the empty neck area but Kardashian went with only a pair of hoop earrings and a ring, probably because the outfit alone was loud enough.
Kardashian's Canadian tuxedo was especially flattering on her pear-shaped body. She might just be on to a new trend for 2020.
It seems like the Kardashian-West family really loves their denim on denim looks because Kanye West also wore the Canadian tuxedo outfit at an event last month. West broke headlines when he attended the 2019 FGI Night Of Stars Gala on October 24 wearing a dark blue denim jacket with a slightly different shade of blue denim jeans. He paired that with white running shoes and a gold ring.
When done well, the Canadian tuxedo can actually look pretty good. Sometimes the key is keeping the jacket open and wearing a shirt that breaks up the denim colours. But we're pretty impressed with Kardashian's custom look and hope it sparks a new trend giving a shoutout to Canadian fashion.
