Ayesha & Steph Curry’s Childhoods Both Include Living In Toronto Before They Met
They first bonded over a love for Canadian candy!
Celebrity couples with successful marriages are pretty inspiring especially in the stressful entertainment industry where a lot of relationships bite the dust. Celebrity cook and basketball star, Steph Curry and Ayesha Curry's relationship started with a coincidental meeting when they were teenagers who just moved out of Toronto.
The 30-year-old chef was born in The Six with the birth name Ayesha Disa Alexander. She was raised in the city by her parents, John and Carol Alexander alongside her four siblings.
When she was 14-years-old, she and her family moved to Charlotte, North Carolina where she attended Weddington High School.
Ayesha's interest in cooking began as a child when she "would watch her babysitter prepare Trinidadian curry and roti" according to Biography. They also noted that "her mother is Jamaican and Chinese and her dad is of Polish and African-American ancestry."
Steph was born in Ohio in 1988 with the birth name Wardell Stephen Curry II. He was mainly raised in Charlotte, which helped the two meet when they were teenagers.
The NBA star's time in Toronto was thanks to his father, Dell Curry, who played for the Raptors from 1999 to 2002. Steph was 14 when he moved back home where he eventually met his future wife.≥÷
While living in Toronto, he played for "the Queensway Christian College Saints Grade 7 and 8 boys basketball team" according to Toronto Star. Basketball runs through the Curry family as his brother Seth currently plays for the Dallas Mavericks.
With a one year age difference, they met in North Carolina in 2002 as "fellow member[s] of the youth group at the Central Church of God", according to Insider.
They also wrote that they had a "mutual love of candy, specifically Maynards Fuzzy Peach" and Ayesha would share them with her future hubby.
Insider further explained that since she wasn't allowed to date until she was older, the couple got into a relationship in 2008 when both coincidentally ended up moving to Los Angeles.
Since getting hitched in 2011, the Currys share three children: Riley is seven, Ryan is four, and Canon is one.
They don't live anywhere near Toronto anymore but created a home in California where Steph plays for the Golden State Warriors based in San Francisco.
