Emily Hampshire's Engagement To Teddy Geiger Wasn't Her Only Serious Relationship
She was married to a former soccer player!
The Rose family that we know and love are completed by the hilarious strangers they meet and develop a bond with along the way. Stevie Budd is played by a fellow Canadian who hails from Quebec. She's had a pretty interesting life and Schitt's Creek star Emily Hampshire's past relationships include a marriage and an engagement.
The actress was born in Montreal on August 29, 1981. At just 16 years old, she packed up and moved to Toronto to pursue an acting career, which she discovered a love for at 11 years old.
We know her character for her somewhat awkward relationship encounters on the CBC sitcom. In real life, Hampshire has actually experienced her own engagements rather than watching as her BFFs David and Patrick put a ring on it.
In 2006, she tied the knot with Matthew Smith, a soccer player turned talent agent. They separated, and the divorce was finalized around the time she met Teddy Geiger in 2018.
Page Six confirmed the new relationship in September 2018, after an Instagram photo with the caption "Just me & my girlfriend." was posted by Hampshire.
In the following November, the two got engaged and shared the news with an emotional Instagram post. Geiger captioned her set of photos with, "Which is why... When she asked me if I wanted to spend the rest of our lives together I said... YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES INFINITE YES ♥️ I love u @emilyhampshire."
Page Six again confirmed that the engagement was called off in June this year. They reported that their source told them the two were over and "'[would] not get back together.'" They also wrote that the couple "were last photographed together on March 27 at the Canadian Screen Awards."
Geiger is a singer and songwriter who works closely with Shawn Mendes and has also written and produced songs for artists including One Direction, Maroon 5, and John Legend.
Since landing a part opposite Eugene and Dan Levy in 2015, Hampshire has been in loads of series and movies.
She wrapped up her two-year-long role on Rookie Blue as Celery in 2015. She was also in the movie Mother! opposite Jennifer Lawrence, and played Jennifer Goines in the series 12 Monkeys.
If you're really going to miss her playing Stevie, you can look out for Hampshire in the horror film Home coming out in 2020.
