It wouldn't be surprising if Meghan Markle's former Suits castmates are still having a hard time grasping the idea that she's now a royal. For the cast, it may have been a shock, but for the Suits writers room, it's given them opportunities that they just couldn't pass up on. The Suits series finale just aired and paid homage to Meghan Markle and Prince Harry.
The Toronto-filmed drama ended its nine-year run on Wednesday and wrapped every character's story with a perfect bow. While past and current characters mingled one last time, there was an obvious character missing. Markle's character Rachel Zane was missing from the cast reunion. The showrunners, however, made sure to include her wherever they could in the episode.
The first came as more of a light-hearted, subtle joke at one of the character's weddings. While Louis Litt was preparing to walk down the aisle, Harvey Specter couldn't help but make a joke about his outfit jokingly saying, "Wait a second, are you wearing a morning coat? Louis, you’re not the prince of England." What makes this joke hilarious is that not only is Markle married to the prince of England, but there is actually a Prince Louis!
This isn't the first time the show has poked fun at Markle's new royal life. Just a few episodes ago there was a joke made about the wellbeing of Markle's character with her onscreen husband saying, "If I told you how good, you probably wouldn’t believe me," in response to someone asking how she was.
The second reference to Markle came in a more sober time. The series ended with a montage of important moments from the almost decade long show and Markle's character, Rachel was sprinkled all across it, leaving fans of the show with the much-needed nostalgia of a finale.
The show has always been supportive of Markle's new life congratulating the royal couple on every milestone, like the announcement of their pregnancy and engagement.
Markle was on Suits for seven years so it isn't a surprise that they would give her a proper send-off despite her not being there. At least for fans of Rachel, her happy ending was given two seasons before when she married the love of her life and became a lawyer!
