If you're the kind of person who spends hours watching YouTube videos aimlessly, you've probably heard of Lilly Singh, better known as Superwoman. The 30-year-old Scarborough native has racked up 14.9 million subscribers throughout her career, and she's only getting bigger. Bisexual YouTuber Lilly Singh opened up about coming out and it's so inspiring.
If you follow Singh on social media, you may remember earlier this year when she officially came out to her fans as bisexual. As a well recognized public figure, and a woman of colour, this was no easy feat, but Singh felt that she didn't want to hide that part of herself from her fans anymore.
In her interview with Marie Claire, Singh said, "When I tweeted about being bisexual, a lot of people told me it’s bad, that I shouldn’t do that, especially because I have fans in cultures around the world that might not support it. I remember making the decision, like, 'Well, eff it, you don’t get to have an opinion about who I am.'"
In the interview, Singh also spoke excitedly about the premiere of her new show, A Little Late with Lilly Singh, which is premiering on September 16. She's making it her mission to ensure that women and people of colour are heavily involved in the show in order to make sure their voices are heard.
The Marie Claire piece also included Singh gushing about how closely she's been able to work with some of her idols like Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, Selena Gomez, and Priyanka Chopra. "People who I wanted to get their autograph one day. And now I’m in a position where, if I need advice, I call Dwayne,” Singh said.
With the upcoming premiere of her new show, Singh definitely has a lot on her plate, but she's promised her fans that she'll still do her absolute best to keep up with her philanthropic work and other commitments.
