Cardi B just got slapped with a $10 million lawsuit, filed against her by her ex-manager Shaft. The lawsuit comes after Cardi B fired Shaft, accusing him of stealing from her. Shaft claims that not only is Cardi B guilty of defaming him and breaching their contract, but also that she never would've made it in music if it wasn't for him. Someone sounds bitter.
Shaft says that Cardi B reached out to him in 2015, back when she was just an Instagram star hoping to make it big as a rapper. Shaft taught her everything she knows about music, and takes full credit for "Bodak Yellow," which he and his team produced.
But, Cardi B was convinced that Shaft was pocketing tons of money behind her back. She claims he would deceive her about how much she was getting paid so he could secretly take extra for himself. Cardi B's fiancee Offset went off on Shaft in a text, furious about Shaft's outrageous 20% manager's fee. In the text, Offset called Shaft a "snake" and said, "u not about to play my WIFE." Oh snap.
Shaft also blamed Cardi B's publicist for slandering him, and convincing her of things he never did. Shaft says that since he was so vital to her rise to fame, Cardi B had an obligation to keep him on. Letting him go went against their agreement.
His official statement says, “Since discovering Cardi B in 2015, Shaft has played an integral role in developing her music career and public image. While he is proud of their successful collaborations as she evolved from Instagram influencer to music megastar, Shaft is disappointed by her actions to freeze him out of her career, which are detailed in the complaint.”
