Demi Lovato remains hospitalized after she was found unconscious and suffering from a drug overdose in her Hollywood home yesterday. Lovato has struggled with a drug addiction for years, and has been in and out of rehab several times. Her overdose happened just days after relapsing from six years of sobriety.
New reports reveal that Lovato may have been using methamphetamine leading up to the overdose. While it's unlikely that meth was the cause, her friend treated Lovato with Narcan, which is used for overdoses on opioids like Oxycontin. Lovato has previously admitted to abusing Oxycontin and cocaine.
According to Page Six, a nurse who treated Lovato told police that she'd been using methamphetamine around the time of her overdose.
Lovato reportedly got into a big fight with her sobriety coach earlier this month, according to TMZ. She accused her coach of betraying her, which may have triggered her return to drugs. Her close friends reportedly had no idea that she was spiraling, and were completely stunned by what happened.
Thankfully, Lovato is now in stable condition. Despite initial reports, Lovato denies using heroin during the time of her overdose.
“Demi is awake and with her family who want to express thanks to everyone for the love, prayers and support. Some of the information being reported is incorrect and they respectfully ask for privacy and not speculation as her health and recovery is the most important thing right now,” says Demi Lovato's spokesperson.
We're sure that the overdose scare was a major wakeup call for Lovato, and she has all the support she needs to overcome it.
