Halsey Opened Up About Her Life As A Homeless Teenager And The Story Is Heartbreaking
Halsey gave an emotional speech at the Ending Youth Homelessness gala.
Just recently, Halsey opened up about her heartbreaking life as a homeless teenager. You may have heard of Ashley Frangipane, better known by her stage name, Halsey. She sings hit songs like New Americana, Without Me, and Bad at Love, and even on and off in 2018. Throughout her career, Halsey has always been open and candid about her struggles with her fans, talking about everything from her miscarriage to being cheated on.
Although you may not guess it now, when she was just 19-years-old, Halsey was living on the streets, wondering how she would survive from day to day. At one point, things got so bad that she considered turning to prostitution as a way to make enough money to feed herself.
On Saturday night, Halsey attended the Ending Youth Homelessness gala in Los Angeles, where she opened up about her experience about being a homeless teen. In 2016, the singer wound up homeless after her parents kicked her out for dropping out of community college.
"When I was living in New York, I was a teenager. My friends were picking out decorations for their dorms, and I was debating on whether or not I should let a stranger inside of me so I could pay for my next meal," Halsey said during her speech.
If you want to hear all that she had to say, you can watch Halsey's speech in the video above. She also opened up about how her break into the music industry literally saved her life. As someone who's experienced so much strife and struggle first hand, Halsey makes an awesome advocate for ending youth homelessness.
If there's one thing Halsey's good at, it's taking an unbearable situation and turning it into a hit song, so after such an emotional speech I'm sure we can expect big things from her next studio album, which she has said is coming soon.
