The athlete has been taking Wimbledon 2018 and our hearts by storm.

Well, now Canada is obsessed with a tennis player from Ontario. While Tennis may not be a major sport in Canada, Denis Shapovalov is the new favourite athlete after his amazing performance in Wimbledon's 2018 tournament.

Shapovalov was born in Tel Aviv, Israel on April 15, 1999, before moving to Ontario before his first birthday. The 19-year old's family is Russian and settled in Vaughan, Ontario, just north of Toronto.

Actually, Shapovalov's mother, Tessa, is where the tennis star got his start. She owned and operated her own tennis club called TessaTennis, helping him have a home base to practise at. If her legendary son wasn't enough to prove her skills, it's worth noting that his mother is actually still his coach alongside Martin Laurendeau.

While Shapovalov shows enormous skill on the court, his athleticism doesn't stop there. He shares multiple photos on his social media of him trying various workouts. The tennis player has tried his hands at boxing, cardio, weight training, basketball and even yoga.

It seems like when Shapovalov isn't training or competing, he's celebrating his Canadian heritage like most of us. As an athlete, it should come as no surprise that the 19-year old is a fan of Canada's sports teams.

Growing up in the GTA, Shapovalov became a big fan of the Toronto Raptors and Maple Leafs and now regularly attends games when it works out with his schedule.

The tennis player is fluent in Russian and holds both Israeli and Canadian citizenships. While Shapovalov now lives in the Bahamas, he regularly visits and comments on Canada's news online.

After the tragic van attack in Toronto, Shapovalov wore a Toronto Strong t-shirt while in Budapest to share his solidarity with Canadians.

As if he couldn't get any sweeter, Shapovalov also loves dogs. He regularly shares photos with his family's two white and fluffy pooches.

While the word is still out on whether this Canadian athlete is in a relationship, we're hoping that maybe one of the Bouchard ladies will snatch him up. Beautiful blonde tennis players? Yes, please!
