There's a strange and unfortunate connection that's causing the future of fashion label Marchesa to be in jeopardy. Thanks to the sexual-harassment allegations against film producer Harvey Weinstein, his wife Georgina Chapman, is clearly in a difficult situation. What you probably didn't know is that said wife, Georgina Chapman is a fashion designer and the co-founder of the fashion label Marchesa. Pretty problematic, no?
The fashion designer left Harvey Weinstein earlier in October and is awaiting for a divorce settlement which is to soon be filed in court. Weinstein's actions however, have still played a pinnacle role in her company's uprising and now downfall.
Georgina's success and career with Marchesa have been highly dependant on Weinstein. Many of the actresses from his productions have been found sporting Marchesa on the red carpet: Renee Zellweger, Cate Blanchett, and Blake Lively, to name a few. In prior years, many wondered if said actresses wore the brand due to some heavy persuasion on Weinstein's end. Now, it's worth suggesting that the brand might not be seen on a red carpet again.
How bad is the damage? The fashion brand and Chapman just pulled out of the New York Fashion week, according to the New York Post. An unnamed fashion publicist in New York even went so far as to say that "no star is ever going to want to wear the brand again". Georgina Chapman has chosen to remain private at the time, keeping her focus on her children.
