It was a true Canadian love story, the Canuck King and Queen of pop rock. When Avril Lavigne and Chad Kroeger - a.k.a. Chavril - tied the knot back in 2013, fans were overjoyed. However, it only lasted a mere two years.
The couple divorced in 2015, and instead of giving us some juicy break-up drama, they remained friends. Like, really close friends. In the words of Avril herself, "the best of friends," which she wrote in a statement announcing their separation.
Sure, couples say they'll remain friends all the time after a breakup, right? Well, these two seriously meant it. They have got the weirdest yet beautiful relationship a divorced couple could ever comprehend.
On a side note, you know what else is weird? Writing your own wedding song. I guess that's just something you do when you're both multi-platinum selling artists. They also collaborated on another duet called "Let Me Go." Check out the very emotional music video below.
Around a year after announcing their divorce, the two attended multiple events together, including a pre-Grammy party as well as the Juno Awards. Avril went as Chad's date to the Junos because he was nominated for an award. Awww.
Avril has also defended Chad from online bullies. Because, as successful as Nickleback is, the band has definitely been the butt of a few jokes. You know you've heard them. She even went after E! News about their article called, "Poll Reveals People Actually Dislike One Thing More Than Nickelback." Ouch!
In 2017 after a long hiatus, Avril took the stage to perform for the first time in three years. Where? At a Nickelback concert with her ex-boo, of course. She joined the band to sing along with their hit song "Rockstar".
That year, she also collaborated with Chad on her sixth album. It was during this time that she was severely battling Lyme disease. She credits Chad for being one of her main support systems through the ordeal.
Yesterday, Avril premiered her video for the song "Head Above Water" which she has said holds great importance to her. In a tweet, she thanked her ex-hubby for recording her vocals as well as having her back and taking care of her through the experience.
So what's next for the pair. A reconciliation, perhaps? I'm not so sure. If they've spent this long in their platonic and odd post-divorce relationship, that's probably where it's going to stay. I've gotta say, it's super strange but definitely adorable.
(4/4) Chad Kroeger and @chrisbaseford , thank you for recording my vocals. You all worked together so well. You all took such good care of me and had my back though this experience. I can’t thank you enough.— Avril Lavigne (@AvrilLavigne) September 27, 2018
