Beyoncé and Jay-Z truly took the music industry by storm over the past calendar year. Beyoncé released her widely celebrated Lemonade, an album in which she candidly discussed her husband, Jay-Z, cheating on her. Though the woman remained nameless under the pseudonym 'Becky With The Good Hair', it was clear that the unthinkable happened - one of the most beautiful women in the world was deceived by her husband.
Jay-Z also hinted to the affair multiple times on his 2017 release, 4:44. The album is considered his most honest and humbled reflection to date. Jay recently sat down with the editor of The New York Times to discuss the album and his personal life.
Jay admitted that insecurities from his past caused him to shut Beyoncé out, creating distance in their marriage. "You have to survive. So you go into survival mode, and when you go into survival mode, what happens? You shut down all emotions. So, even with women, you gonna shut down emotionally, so you can't connect. ... In my case, like, it's deep. And then all the things happen from there: infidelity."
"It was very, very uncomfortable," Jay-Z revealed, saying that this music brought both him and Beyoncé a lot of pain. The rapper even confessed that his cheating could have easily led to the power couple splitting, but they were able to reconcile and heal together. "You know, most people walk away, and, like, divorce rate is like 50 percent or something ’cause most people can’t see themselves. The hardest thing is seeing pain on someone’s face that you caused, and then have to deal with yourself.'"
Jay-Z admits that coming face-to-face with his problems has caused him to reflect on his past experiences and become more in-touch with his emotions, in order to process them better. 'Becky With The Good Hair' continues to remain a secret, though her identity is said to be designer, Rachel Roy.
