From bathing in Evian water to vampire facials, our fascination with celebrity spa treatments is neverending. Even if we can only daydream about affording them ourselves, we still love learning about the crazy lengths celebs will go to in order to stay young and beautiful. So, when Kim Kardashian shared her latest spa indulgence on Instagram yesterday, we immediately wanted to find out more.
Kim spent her Sunday afternoon getting a Korean scrub at Pellequr in Beverly Hills, according to her Instagram Story. She piqued our interest with a picture of a multi-nozzle shower head looming ominously over a blue and white spa bed. What was Kim up to this time?
In The Little Book of Skin Care, author Charlotte Cho details the Korean spa experience. According to Cho, "[A Korean body scrub] is the most hardcore exfoliation around." If we're being honest, the treatment Cho describes doesn't sound particularly relaxing. "As soon as you're lying down, they'll dump a bucket of warm water on you to start, then begin scrubbing you from head to toe," she wrote. "These scrubs are done with force and conviction and cover almost every inch."
But, hey, a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do! Plus, on its website, Pellequr promises the spa has put a Western spin on the traditional Korean spa experience: "Our guests are pampered in an elegant, peaceful environment that is designed for mindfulness and emotional well-being." Now, that sounds A LOT more like our girl Kim.
Ever since the days of rubbing our faces raw with St. Ives Apricot Scrub, we've known exfoliation is an essential part of any skincare routine. And, for once, we might actually be able to afford a celebrity spa treatment. Pellequr's full body scrubs start at $195. Cho said we'll "actually see the dead skin cells being sloughed off" as they roll down our back in "gross little gray balls." If it's good enough for Kim K, it's good enough for us!
