Macaulay Culkin Reveals Truth About Relationship With Michael Jackson As A Kid

The truth is finally out.

For the last decade, Macaulay Culkin has occasionally turned up in tabloid stories looking haggard and raising concerns that he's a drug-addicted, broken-down child star.

But according to a recent interview, that couldn't be farther from the truth. The former actor is leading an enviable expat life in Paris, where he’s surviving off the millions he earned as the star of the “Home Alone” movies and other blockbusters of the early 1990s.

“I’m a retired 30-something, walking around with a baguette tucked under my arm, living the romantic life," he told WTF Podcast.

Appearing in episode 883 and asking to be called 'Mac', Culkin discussed his unique upbringing – the good, the bad, and the ugly – in his most candid interview since disappearing from the Hollywood limelight over 20 years ago.

After detailing the abuse he received at the hands of his own father as a child, he recalled how the Jackson family had shown him kindness. Rumours concerning Michael Jackson's relationship with Culkin has been hitting tabloids for years, and the 37-year-old child star has finally addressed them.

Speaking of Jackson, Culkin said the singer reached out to him soon after his success with Home Alone and never doubted that his intentions were good. “We we’re friends. We were actually best friends for a stretch of time while I was growing up. It was a legitimate friendship,” he said. “He enjoyed my youthfulness. He liked being a kid. He liked being a kid with me. He like being around kids, and it never struck me as odd.”

Adding that their relationship "never felt weird," Culkin said Jackson reached out to just make sure everything was ‘alright’: "There’s no child actor self help group. He said, ‘Do you want to hang out? Do you want to come to my house?’ He was like my best friend growing up for a stretch of my life. It was a legitimate friendship."

Culkin remained in touch with him until Jackson’s death in 2009 and admitted that he remains very close to Michael Jackson’s daughter, Paris. He’s her godfather.

"I’m very protective of her," he said. "She is beloved by me."

So there you have it, everyone. Let's put the rumours to rest now.
