Nicki Minaj Opens Up About Being Single For The First Time In 20 Years, Being Sexually Abstinent, And A Girlboss

Don't need no man.

In case you have been living under a rock recently, rap queen Nicki Minaj has returned to the hip-hop scene after a four-year hiatus. Minaj sat down with Elle for their July issue and got real about what it means to be a single woman in her thirties.

Minaj has been linked to Drake, Nas, Meek Mill, and Lil Wayne in the past, but the musician has confirmed that she is a single lady. She also said in her interview that it's been twenty years since she was single, meaning she was 15 years old when she was last a lone wolf.

But being alone doesn't scare Minaj, in fact, it does the opposite. She said in the interview with Elle that being single gives her assurance in who she is as a person, stating that it makes her feel like she can do anything.

“As soon as I realized that I could actually live and breathe, and eat and sleep, and walk and talk without having a boyfriend, something clicked in me," she said. What clicked was the fact that she could do things on her own and she didn't need a man to make her successful.

Minaj went on to say that her career is hers, not because any man helped her get there. "Becoming single was one of the things that made me feel strong and powerful. The fact that I am a young woman who doesn’t need a man for money. I don’t need a man for a job. I’ve never had to f*ck for beats. I’ve never had to f*ck for a record deal. I don’t have those pressures," she said.

The only pressure Minaj is trying to feel these days is striving for what she sees as perfection. Whether it's her newest album or her outfit, she's always striving to take it to the next level.

What is so inspiring is that Minaj will never apologize for being herself. "I love being sexy; I’m never gonna stop being an exhibitionist," she said, but that doesn't mean she's going to try and find a new man. She raps on her new album "abstaining from sex had to zen my body. I ain’t giving, so don’t ask, I don’t lend my body. He gotta be king status to get in my body."

The rap scene is predominantly male so Minaj coming into her own about her independence is really inspiring. It goes to show that even women in power positions sometimes feel like men have the final say, but Nicki proves that's just not the case. You go, girl!
