Shawn Mendes has had an insane last couple of years. He's only 20 years old and is more successful career wise then some of us may ever be. Things didn't always look up for him, though. Before he became famous he faced a lot of backlash. On Instagram, Shawn Mendes opened up about being bullied and celebrities are praising him for it.
In an Instagram post, Shawn Mendes captioned photos of himself at his latest concert with a story about his heartbreaking high school years. In a lengthy paragraph, he wrote,
"I’m thinking about being in 9th grade right now. The day after I posted one of my first covers onto YouTube back in 2014.. at school walking down the hall straight into a group of older guys yelling out “sing for me Shawn sing for me!” In a way that made me feel absolutely horrible... made me feel like a joke, like what I was doing was just stupid & wrong.
I was lucky though, I had the best friends & the best parents anyone could ask for... no matter what they would never let me stop doing what I LOVED to do just because someone ELSE thought it was stupid."
He went on to clarify that this post isn't just meant for teens going through what he did, but for everyone in the world going through hard times. He wrote, "I’m writing this not only to the 15 year old kid who’s scared to follow their heart because of what people might say but also to the 50-year-old who may be doing the exact same thing."
He ends the post by letting everyone know that he's, "rooting for you."
Positive vibes attract positivity and Shawn Mendes definitely got all the support from fellow artists in the comments of his post.
His friend Camila Cabello, who he just released the hit song Señorita with, was one of the first to show her support of his struggles. She wrote, "😭🙌🏼🙌🏼 this is beautiful."
Niall Horan even jumped onto the positivity train by commenting, "Couldn’t relate or agree with something more If I tried... we had the last laugh 🤟🤟."
Even Youtube's most elite are supporting other artists. Vlogger David Dobrik even showed his support through the emoji's, "😊❤️."
Some other celebs that lined up to send well wishes in his comments include, Hayley Kiyoko, Hayes Grier, Lauren Jauregui, and Benny Blanco.
