Fans are in love with Chrissy Metz's portrayal of Kate Pearson on "This Is Us". Over two seasons, we've seen Kate Pearson open up about her struggle with binge eating and weight loss. Although fans have had the chance to sympathize with her character, Kate, now Metz is opening up about her real-life struggles with her weight and her abusive childhood.

Chrissy Metz is an extremely successful actress in Hollywood. Although she doesn't look like every other celebrity, she has done very well for herself after landing her role in "This Is Us". Metz opens up about her abusive childhood through her new written memoir, This Is Me.

She explains that she grew up extremely poor and was physically and emotionally abused by her stepfather. Her mother's boyfriend, Trigger, whom her mother had two children with, was a nightmare. He loved his two biological children but despised Chrissy.

While her mother was at work, Trigger would severely abuse Chrissy. She explains that it was her body, in particular, that was the centre of his abuse. He would stare at her, especially when she was eating. He would joke about putting a lock on the fridge.

She opened up about how the food was very scarce in their house, and when it was there, she felt the need to eat immediately before it was gone. She explains that she began to hide her eating away from her family. She would sneak cookies, chips and other snacks into her room. Eating in the night would bring her "a brief bliss of numbness".

She went into detail about how her body was the victim of Trigger's abuse. He would shove her, slap her and punch her arms. Once, he hit her so hard that she fell on the floor and when she asked why he had knocked her over, he kicked her with his foot.

The most heartbreaking part of this story was the mental trauma Trigger caused Chrissy. He began weighing her when she was 14-years-old. He would throw the scale into the bathroom and demand her to "get on the damn thing". He would make comments about how heavy her weight was and ask her why she was getting fatter. By this time the beatings began to escalate.

She talks about her struggle of loving her stepfather but also hating him at the same time. There was a time when she remembers him hitting her, and she thought that if she had a gun, she would've shot him. She was overcome with guilt after thinking about hurting the man who was always her father figure.

She concluded the story by saying that Trigger eventually regretted the situation and they are now in a positive place. She loves him and cares about him. In a very positive perspective, she explained that everyone goes through hardships, and she learned some very beautiful lessons from them.

Her book, This Is Me is out next Monday.
