Recently, Snoop Dogg declared that he wants to move to Canada and become a Canadian citizen by January 2019. He says he loves our country and wants to make it his second home. It's a great idea - but it turns out that it might be nearly impossible for him to do so.
We thought we'd do some digging and try to figure out, on Snoop's behalf, if this would actually be possible. The bad news is that it doesn't look promising for Snoop to officially move here by next month.
The quickest way to legally immigrate to Canada is probably the Express Entry program. Unfortunately for Snoop Dogg, we checked his eligibility and he doesn't qualify for this immigration program.
The main reason for this is that unless he's genuinely been planning this move for a while now, Snoop hasn't done the required language tests and education credit assessments to make him eligible for the fast track. Even if he was eligible, the processing times on these kinds of applications can be around 6 months.
Fortunately, express entry isn't the only option out there for immigration to Canada. Snoop Dogg could have major potential as an investor coming to Canada. That means he could have a pretty good chance at immigrating to Canada under the Immigration Venture Capital Fund Program.
Given Snoop's net worth (at least $124 million USD) and his admiration for our legal weed industry, chances are that he'd want to invest in the cannabis production industry here in Canada. He'd have to invest at least $2 million into our economy, but I'm sure that wouldn't be a problem.
The only stumbling block here is that he'd have to still take all the required tests like having his college education assessed and making sure he's proficient in at least one of our national languages, although he speaks English already so that shouldn't be a problem. The biggest hurdle in his immigration process is time.
So can Snoop immigrate here and become a citizen by January 2019? Sadly, the answer is no. That said, there seems to be nothing stopping him from visiting Canada next month and with that, he can stay for up to 90 days!
