If you're looking for things to do in Grand Rapids to kick off the New Year, you should check out what's happening downtown. Prismatica is a public art installation that has traveled all over the U.S. and Canada. Now it's coming to Michigan to start 2020 off with a beautiful start.

There will be 50 of these prisms lining the streets of Downtown Grand Rapids from January 17 until February 16, 2020.

The jewel-like objects rotate and reflect beautiful colors from the entire color spectrum. The projectors underneath amplify the colors even more and it's something you really need to see.

It's also something you really need to take photos of! Don't forget to bring your phone because your Instagram feed will certainly be brightened by this art.

This is a part of the city's World of Winter Festival which is meant to get people outside and show them ways to enjoy the fresh air during the cold months.

You're free to go to see the lights any time during the exhibition, but there is a very exciting event on January 17, which is the day after it opens.

It's the Dance in the Annex at Prismatica and it something that you should not miss if you're in the area.

There's going to be live music and five dancers performing a contemporary dance while incorporating the prisms into their art.

The month-long festival is hosting a ton of free or low-cost events.

If you're looking for other fun things to do while you're in Grand Rapids, you should check out this winter luge track or take a trip to Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore
