If there's a show you're really invested in, it's natural to pick favourite characters and stars while you're watching. For example, Grey's Anatomy star Giacomo Gianniotti is a fan favourite of many of the show's viewers. When he's not playing the role of Dr. Andrew DeLuca on the ABC hit show, the Canadian actor spends his time cheering on the Raptors and other sports teams, hanging out with his friends and family, and now, sharing motivational messages on Instagram.

Yesterday afternoon, Gianniotti took to the social media platform to share a message with his followers. The quote reads, "Failure should be our teacher, not our undertaker. Failure is delay, not defeat. It is a temporary detour, not a dead end."

The Grey's star captioned the photo, "For whoever needs this.Check my stories. Make 2020 about learning the lessons of 2019 and applying them in this year."

He went into it further on his Instagram stories and posted a cryptic message saying, "Today I finally accept defeat, to a long battle I have been in for the last couple weeks in my career. I took an L, a big L. L stands for LOSS in case you were wondering. I'm devastated. Truly."

Some of Gianniotti's followers began questioning if this post and the stories that went with it were a subtle hint that he would be retiring his role as DeLuca on the hit medical drama.

"Are you leaving Grey's? 😭 Please nooo," one fan wrote in the comments. "Please tell me you're not leaving Grey's Anatomy," added another.

The majority of the comments on the post come from fans who are questioning if Dr. DeLuca will be hanging up his stethoscope, which shows just how much people love him on Grey's.

Although Gianniotti himself hasn't responded to the comments from fans, TV Guide confirmed yesterday that the actor won't be leaving the series anytime soon.

"[In] life, as many mentors of mine have told me, is a war, made up of many battles that are won and [lost]. This battle was lost, and it was humbling, to say the least," the actor wrote on his story yesterday.

Now that it's been confirmed that Gianniotti won't be leaving the show anytime soon, it will be interesting to find out exactly what sort of career "L" he's referring to.

You can catch the Canadian star back on Grey's Anatomy on January 23 at 9 p.m. EST on ABC.
