12 Amazing Festivals To Look Forward To In Nova Scotia This Spring

There are only three more weeks of winter!

Though it may be hard to believe considering the sub-zero temperatures we’ve been suffering through lately, March 20th marks the official beginning of Spring, and Haligonians couldn’t be more excited.

We’ve put together a list of unreal festivals happening all over the province from March to June that’ll have you looking forward to the end of winter.


1. Full House Craft Beer Festival 

Halifax's third annual craft beer festival will be taking place on May 12th, with 31 local breweries participating, including Propeller Brewing Company, Good Robot Brewing Company, 2 Crows Brewing and more!


2. East Coast Cider Festival 

Get excited about this delicious food and drink festival, taking place May 27th at 5pm with over 15 cideries participating! Pick up your tickets ASAP for a chance to try some refreshing cider from No Boats On Sunday, Annapolis Cider Company and ShipBuilders Cider.


3. Spring Equinox Sunrise Ceremony By The Sea

Take in the first day of spring at the White Point Beach Resort by participating in a Mi’kmaq Sunrise Ceremony at 7:21am on March 20th. Stay overnight March 19th and rise early to join members from the Acadia First Nation in celebrating this annual tradition.


4. Third Annual Halifax Tea Festival

Drop by the Multipurpose Room at the Halifax Forum on April 1st to sample different teas from local exhibitors, try some food, enjoy the live music, take part in a tea leaf reading and participate in a variety of workshops related to the harvesting and serving of tea.

5. Halifax Comedyfest

Over 30 comedians will be performing some hilarious sets at a multitude of venues all over the HRM from April 26th to April 29th, many of which will then air in a six-part series on the CBC. Pick up your tickets ASAP to make sure you catch a couple shows from these world class acts!


6. Annapolis Valley Apple Blossom Festival

Experience the Annapolis Valley at it’s finest during their famous spring Apple Blossom Festival. From May 24th to May 29th attend wine tastings, participate in the parade and take in the famous apple blossoms as they come into bloom!


7. Scotia Festival of Music

This two-week annual festival from May 28th to June 11th hosts more than 50 public events, including concerts, open rehearsals, master classes, lectures and more from music professionals from all over the world. Check their schedule and see a show if you can!


8. Shelburne County Lobster Festival

Home to some of the best seafood in the world, join the community of Shelburne from June 1st to the 4th as they celebrate their annual lobster festival with a weekend full of boat races, seafood cook-offs, lobster shucking contests and more.


9. Cold Waters Seafood Festival

If you aren’t able to attend the Lobster Fest in Shelburne, check out the Cold Waters Seafood Festival at the historic Memory Lane Heritage Village in Lake Charlotte from June 3rd to June 4th. Only 45 minutes outside of Halifax, the Eastern Shore waters near this community yield some of the best mussels, clams and haddock in Nova Scotia – be sure to give it a try!


10. Le Village Rhubarb Festival

Le Village Historique Acadien is located on a 17-acre point overlooking the Pubnico Harbour – visit this picturesque community on June 8th at 1:30pm to partake in their rhubarb festival, complete with delicious homemade food and live local music.


11. Parrsboro International Plein Air Festival

This unique Parrsboro art festival is the first of its kind in Canada, and will see 35 artists from all over North America congregate for a real-time, outdoor competition. Watch these talented painters recreate scenes from throughout the Bay of Fundy/Minas Basin region for an enthusiastic audience and cash prizes from June 16th to June 18th.


12. Avondale Art Fair and Ginger Fest

The Avondale Sky Winery in Newport Landing will be hosting a massive festival June 17th, featuring live music and exceptional work from a variety of maritime artists. This juried outdoor fair will also provide visitors with the chance to sample a range of ginger products from the region.
