As September comes to a close, it's normal to start looking ahead and planning what every waking minute of Halloween Weekend 2016 will look like.  Of course you already have your costume picked out - you're no amateur - but where will the best drink deals be, who's headlining what...

Good news: there are 30 other days in October to be excited about as well!  Take a scan through our list below and mark some of these awesome events, performances and cat shows (what?) down on your calendar.

1. Halifax PARTY in Pink

Get in on this pink Zumba party at the Halifax & Region Military Family Resources Centre, 7:30 p.m. this Saturday. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door, with all proceeds going to benefit Breast Cancer Research.

2. 2016 Halifax Oyster Festival

Head down to the waterfront this weekend of the annual Halifax Oyster Festival. Enjoy delicious Nova Scotian craft beer, local wine and (of course) oysters. There are two tasting sessions, each three hours long, so make sure you purchase the right ticket ahead of time!

3. Classified + Secret Guests

If hip-hop is more your thing Classified will be doing a show on Friday night as well, at the Spatz theatre on Trollop. The Nova Scotian rapper will be sure to bring tons of local talent onstage – make sure you’re there! And don't forget to reach the after party, headlined by DJ Premier.

4. Alexander Keith’s 221st Birthday Celebration

Grab some drinks at the historic Alexander Keith’s Brewery around 5 p.m. on Wednesday, October 5th to celebrate the legendary brew master’s 221st birthday. After 9 p.m. festivities will move to The Lower Deck, so come prepared for a long night. Admission for both events will be free - make sure you check it out!

5. Sloan: One Chord To Another 2016

Next Friday, East Coast rockers Sloan will be celebrating the 20th birthday of their album One Chord To Another with a show at The Marquee. Tickets are still available, so be sure to grab yours online asap!

 6. SMU Huskies vs MTA Mounties

Head over to Huskies Stadium and support the SMU football team in their fifth regular season game against the Mount Allison Mounties next Friday night at 7 p.m.

7. Halifax Record Fair

Celebrate vinyl culture at the Halifax Forum Maritime Hall next Saturday at the Halifax Record Fair! Browse through this incredible selection of old vinyl for only a $5 admission cost!

8. Nocturne 2016

Roam Halifax all night long in celebration of Nocturne, an annual citywide art festival that sees creators from many different mediums putting their work on display at galleries and in public spaces until the early hours of the morning – and all of it’s free!

9. Dal Homecoming 2016

All weekend Dal will be hosting some awesome homecoming events, including the President’s Fun Run/Walk and a Dal vs SMU hockey night. All on campus events are free for Dalhousie Alumni, and range from $5-$10 for attendees.

10. Halifax Pop Explosion

Halifax’s biggest annual music festival will feature performances from a variety of amazing musicians at venues all over the city. Many of the shows will be super affordable, so get out and celebrate this awesome festival by seeing as much live music as you possibly can!

11. Halifax Halloween Cat Show

Don’t miss the great Halifax Annual Halloween Cat Show at the Halifax Forum Maritime Hall on Saturday the 22nd from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m., and again on Sunday from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. An important event for all those that truly consider themselves cat lovers - cats and kittens will be competing all day for the Best in Show title.

12. Board Room Trivia: Harry Potter

Reach The Board Room Game Café on Barrington Street during one of their multiple Harry Potter Trivia sessions between the 24th and 26th – make sure you visit their page and sign up soon because spots are filling up quickly!

13. Sci-Fi Symphony: A Hal-Con Event

To get people psyched for November's annual Hal-Con, there will be a blockbuster themed performance from Symphony Nova Scotia’s full orchestra on the weekend of October 29th, featuring pieces from Batman, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Journey, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and more. 15. Diwali Night 2016 – Festival Of Lights

Join the Indian Festivals Club of Nova Scotia, The Maritime Sikh Society, the Indo Canadian Association of NS and INDISA in celebrating Diwali on the 29th of October in the McInnis Room at Dalhousie. Come by around 5 p.m. for traditional Indian cuisine and some fabulous performances.
