The best part of October is finally here, and no we’re not talking about Drake’s Birthday - although I’d like to wish Aubrey all the best on his 30th today. This week is all about getting ready for Halloween: whether that means deciding what parties to attend, what costumes to wear or who to hang out with, we know you’ll be looking out for some weird parties.
Below we’ve listed eight haunted Halloween events happening this week all throughout Halifax that you have to check out. From haunted houses to ghost tours, this city has got it all, so don your Ken Bone costume and book some tickets for these scary celebrations.
1. MSVU Haunted House
Every year, for one night only the students at Mount Saint Vincent University convert their Student Centre into a haunted house fundraiser open for all ages. From 6pm to 11pm on Saturday, October 29th take a tour of this freaky multi-room campus building for only 7 – and it’s all going to a good cause!
2. The Haunted Hollow of Hammonds Plains
After sunset the woods behind 156 Hammonds Plains Road come alive with zombies and ghouls, who lurk behind each tree in anticipation of their living victims. Tour this haunted Hammonds Plains forest on Friday or Saturday for only $12, with all the proceeds going towards the Halifax Volunteer Search and Rescue Team and other local charities.
3. Bluenose Ghosts Festival
Visit the haunted house at Alderney Landing’s annual Halloween festival, happening this week from October 27th to the 31st. Spooky tours of The Geary Street Cemetery are also available as part of the festival, for those courageous enough to confront the living dead. Interactive Online Media Tours designed by artist Leola LeBlanc provide visitors with a smartphone map of the cemetery for them to navigate using satellite technology.
4. Adamson Haunted House
If you were to pass 183 Richardson Drive during any other month of the year, nothing about the home would strike you as being unusual. But for all of October this unsuspecting Fall River property turns into a haunted mansion, surrounded by a haunted forest full of witches, ghosts, vampires and zombies. October 28th, 29th and 30th swing by this haunted house between 6:30pm and 8:30pm if you dare!
5. Tattle Tours Ghost Walk of Historic Halifax
Experienced local tour guide and actor Andy Smith offers haunted Ghost Walk tours of Halifax, in addition to historical walking tours and day tours. Embark on an eerie walk through cemeteries and cursed local buildings on Wednesdays, Fridays or Sundays, from 7:30pm – 9:30pm for only $15.
6. Halifax Citadel Ghost Tour
Take a haunted tour through Fort George on Halifax’s Citadel Hill every Friday and Saturday evening, lead by a historically costumed guide waiting for you on the drawbridge. For over an hour visitors will be lead through sinister tunnels and prison cells by candlelight, every Thursday, Friday and Saturday night at 8:30pm. This Saturday will be the last tour of 2016, so be sure to book your tickets for only $12!
7. The Halifax Ghost Walk
Meet at 8:30 at the Old Town Clock on Citadel Hill for an eerie two-hour walk though the streets of Old Halifax. Founded in 1990, The Halifax Ghost Walk is the oldest ghost walk in North America, lead by experienced narrators who have shared mysteries of ghosts and hauntings with thousands of visitors. There are tours available from October 26th to the 30th, so be sure to sign up for one today!
8. The Rocky Horror Picture Show
On Friday The North Street Church will be showing Richard O’Brien’s classic Halloween blockbuster The Rocky Horror Picture Show four times daily between 9pm and 11pm. Swing by this live screening in full costume, and jam out to some of your favorite tunes from this famous cult film.
