8 Markets And Events In Halifax To Hit Up During The Holiday Season

Now that Halloween is over it's time to start breaking out the Christmas decorations!  I know it seems early, but soon enough the grocery store will start playing carols and you'll be loading your cart up with egg nog.  Get a head start on the holiday excitement by hitting up some of these massive markets happening all over Halifax throughout the coming months.

All the seasonal exhibitions listed below feature the work of local artists and business owners, with vendors from all over Canada selling baked goods, crafts, hand made pottery, quilts, fresh produce and so much more at every market.  Start taking care of your Christmas shopping early, or leave it to the last minute - however you like to shop, there's a market for you to enjoy.

1. Christmas At The Forum

This weekend head over to the Halifax Forum for one of the biggest Christmas markets in Halifax! The 39th annual Festival of Crafts will kick of this Friday, November 9th, with three massive buildings full of talented local craft exhibitioners showing works of pottery, quilting, wood work, baking, and so much more! There are tons of amazing prizes being auctioned off to lucky visitors, so be sure to throw your name in the hat.

2. Christmas Craft Village

Artisans and crafters from all over Canada will come together at the Halifax Exhibition Centre on the weekend of November 11th to show their work as part of this epic three-day holiday market experience. Admission is only $9 and kids under 12 are free! Be sure to come out and see the amazing hard work of these talented vendors.

3. The Nova Scotia Designer Crafts Council Christmas Show

The Nova Scotia Designer Crafts Council will be returning for another amazing event on the weekend of November 18th at the Cunard Event Centre at Pier 23. This juried event accepted submissions from any and all NSDCC members, and will be an incredible exhibition of local crafting skill that you have to see for an admission cost of only $7.

4. 2016 Dalplex Christmas Craft Market

For over 30 years vendors from all over the Atlantic region and across Canada have been exhibiting exceptional works of pottery, jewelry, art and delicious treats at the Dalplex Christmas Market – drop by at some point on the weekend of November 25th and pick up some skilfully crafted gifts for your loved ones!

5. Halifax Lights Holiday Market

This brand new holiday market will be taking over a series of historic properties along the Halifax waterfront from November 25th all the way to December 18th for the second annual Halifax Lights Holiday Market – featuring the work of local artisans on display, live music, a holiday lights display and so much more.

6. Halifax Crafters Society Winter Market

Halifax Crafters is a non-profit, volunteer-based organization that aims to encourage the creative endeavors of new and experienced crafters throughout the HRM. Their annual Christmas Market is free of admission to ensure everyone is able to attend, and will be taking place from November 30th to December 1st this year at the Olympic Community Centre.

7. Christkindlmarket At Alderney Landing

Visit this traditional German Holiday Market at Alderney Landing in Dartmouth on the weekend of December 2nd for free family entertainment, rides and an incredible selection of hand-made crafts and treats. The Christkindlmarket pays homage to the holiday traditions of medieval Germany, when farmers and craftspeople would bring their wares to the local church and exchange gifts. Today this tradition is commemorated with Christkindlmarket events all over the world!

8. Last Minute Christmas Craft Fair

In an attempt to bail out the last minute gift buyer, the Last Minute Christmas Craft Show and Sale will be taking place at the Maritime Hall for the weekend of December 12th – admission is free so be sure to drop buy and check those last few presents off your list!
