The Victims Of Yesterday’s Bar Shooting In Hamilton Were Just Identified

Four people were shot at the Urban Lounge on Sunday morning.

Hamilton Police are currently investigating after four people were shot, and two were killed during an after-hours party at Hamilton's Urban Lounge on March 8, 2020. Police have identified the deceased as 25-year-old Rhonda Homsombath and 39-year-old Jahmal Thomas. The surviving victims, a 38-year-old and a 29-year-old male, have yet to be named.

Rhonda Homsombath was a mother from Hamilton, Ontario who is leaving her daughter behind.

Since the announcement of her death, a GoFundMe page has been set up which has raised over $5,000 as of Monday afternoon.

The page states that "Rhonda was young and full of life, she was loving, caring and had many plans for the future for her and her beautiful daughter Aaliyah whom she loved more then anything in the world.

"She was a loving mother, sister and friend. Her passing was unexpected, money raised will be put into a fund to support her daughter Aaliyah’s education and future financial needs."

Not much is known about 39-year-old Jahmal Thomas. However, according to CTV, he was already known to police.

The shooting took place shortly after 5:00 a.m. near Barton Street East. Police reported that several individuals at the lounge had previously attended a memorial service.

“Police understand the individuals had attended a memorial celebration for murder victim Carel Douse at the Zen Lounge on John St. South earlier in the evening. Douse was murdered on May 18, 2019, at a residence on East Avenue North in Hamilton,” read a statement by police.

“After the Zen Lounge closed, the celebration moved to Urban Lounge on Barton Street East. Shortly after 5:00 a.m., a male entered the establishment and fired multiple shots, striking the four individuals. Police continue to search for a motive behind the shootings,” it adds.

All four victims were taken to hospital by Hamilton Paramedics after emergency services arrived on the scene.

Thomas was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital, while Homsombath succumbed to her injuries shortly after 8:00 a.m.

The other two victims are listed in serious but stable conditions.

According to Hamilton Police Services, the gunman is a black male with a thin build. He is estimated to be in his early 30s and stands at around 5 feet 10.

The suspect was last seen wearing dark pants and a track suit-style zip-up jacket.
