Coffee lovers, beware - a new scientific study shows that people who like their coffee black may have psychopathic tendencies.
Researchers at the University of Innsbruck in Austria looked at the taste preferences of 500 people and found that those who enjoyed more bitter flavours over sweet flavours showed signs of psychopathy, along with Machiavellianism, narcissism and sadism.
A strong correlation was found particularly between those with antisocial personality traits and those who liked black coffee, beer, tonic water and radishes. In contrast, those who enjoy a sweet and milky coffee tend to be more agreeable, kind and cooperative.
However, just because you enjoy your coffee black doesn't automatically make you a psychopath. The study stresses that our taste preferences are largely influenced by culture and experience. There were also no clear conclusions to explain the correlation between bitter flavours and psychopathic tendencies.
