There are few links to the Vegas Shooter Stephen Paddock, but one important one to the case is most definitely his girlfriend, Marilou Danley. As law enforcement works to uncover any sort of motivation as to why the shooter committed such a mass and senseless violence crime, officials say Paddock's girlfriend could be key in uncovering a motive.
Danley made an official statement via her lawyer, saying "I knew Stephen Paddock as a kind, caring, quiet man. I loved him and hoped for a quiet future together with him,” her statement reads. “He never said anything to me or took any action that I was aware of, that I understood in any way to be a warning that something horrible like this was going to happen."
The shooter sent Danley to the Philippines as a 'gift' days before the attack would take place. Danley was wary of the gesture as it seemed a way to get rid or 'break-up' with her.
Danley details that, "A little more than two weeks ago, Stephen told me he found a cheap ticket for me to the Philippines and that he wanted me to take a trip home to see my family. Like all Filipinos abroad, I was excited to go home and see family and friends. While there, he wired me money, which he said was for me to buy a house for me and my family. I was grateful, but honestly, I was worried that first, the unexpected trip home, and then the money, was a way of breaking up with me. It never occurred to me in any way whatsoever that he was planning violence against anyone."
Despite wiring her $100,000 and sending her to the Philippines to get out of the public eye, Danley maintains that she knew nothing of her boyfriend's plans. The two lived together in Vegas prior to the attack. FBI only recently retrieved her from the Philippines for questioning. Law enforcement still believes she is the missing link to determine what the shooter's motives were for the massacre as there are no leads as of yet.
