A "Home Alone" Reboot Is Currently In The Works, Here's Everything We Know

If you were hoping to feel young today, I've got some news that may just age you a little more than you expected — it's been nearly 30 years since the original Home Alone film was released. Because it's a film that's been such a big part of so many people's lives, it's pretty crazy to think about just how old it is now. Home Alone reboot announced by Disney for their new streaming service.

A lot of people are familiar with the film's 1992 sequel and 1997 trilogy, but did you know that the franchise also came out with a made for TV film back in 2002, and a film called The Holiday Heist in 2012 as its fifth project? Most films are lucky to get a sequel, so it's pretty surprising to see so many Home Alone follow-ups.

If you thought Disney was done with the franchise after so many years, you may want to think again. At a recent major convention, the company announced that it plans to "reimagine" Home AloneDiary of a Wimpy Kid, Cheaper by the Dozen, and Night at the Museum for its upcoming Disney+ streaming service.

The news comes from Ashley Carter, a Digital Producer who attended the convention and live-tweeted commentary from the company's CEO, Bob Iger.

It's important to note that the company is using the term "reimagine", and not "remaster". Remastering a film essentially means re-releasing it in much better quality, but a movie being reimagined implies that the film will be re-made with a potentially entire new cast and storyline.

News about casting, filming, and release dates have yet to be shared with the public, so it's hard to say when we can expect all of these new and exciting reboots.

Disney+ is set to launch in the U.S. on Nov. 12 of this year, and although they've said they will be launching in Canada as well, no official date has been released.
