Graylyn Estate in Winston-Salem, North Carolina was purchased in 1925 by Nathalie Lyons Gray and Bowman Gray. This estate sits on a massive 87-acres and will make you feel like you've taken a step back in time.
Nathalie Gray decorated the entire estate room-by-room. The home gives off a Medieval, European vibe as Gray drew style influence from the Normandy and Brittany houses in France.
Anyone can visit the property, whether you want to stay a few nights, or simply tour the estate.
It once had about 60 rooms, making Graylyn Estate the second-largest home in the state behind the Biltmore in Asheville. Today as an international conference center, it has 86 — each decorated uniquely so you'll never stay in the same one twice.
Rooms at Graylyn start at about $200 each, prices will vary with enchanting enhancements that you can add on to your castle-like stay.
For a truly royal experience, a butler service is available to you day and night. They'll even appoint you with the title of "Lord or Lady" upon arrival so you can really live out your fairy tale dreams.
For those that aren't staying the night, a butler-guided tour will wind you through the property as you learn about the entire history of this location. You can even have a picnic on the grounds for a romantic date.
Before its time as a fairy tale inspired stay, Graylyn was used for various medical school programs for Wake Forest University and as an educational conference center.
Mrs. Gray and her sons donated the property to The Bowman Gray School of Medicine of Wake Forest University, where it was then turned into a psychiatric hospital facility until 1959.
In the 1990s is when the estate started transforming into a hotel for guests.
Whether you're there for the storybook stay or an adventure through its history, The Graylyn Estate is a spot fit for your inner king or queen.
