Houston Ice Cream Shop Is Straight Out Of The 1920s

It's 2020 and that means we're back in the roaring 20s! While flapper dresses and suspenders haven't necessarily made their comeback, there are some aspects of the 20s that are definitely still popular. And luckily for us, near Houston, there's an ice cream parlor and candy store that has kept the spirit of the 1920s alive and is bringing a sweet piece of that era to the 2020s.

LaKing's Confectionery has been a favorite in Galveston's Strand area since it opened in the 1970s. This old-timey 1920s-era candy shop and ice cream parlor is authentic because the building actually housed a candy shop in the 1920s.

So when you step inside, it looks like you've traveled back in time a century!

They have a super long ice cream counter stocked full with the best ice cream ever, Blue Bell. There's also a candy counter filled with homemade treats and throwback candies.

It's the cutest place to come in and share a malt with your significant other. Or if you don't feel like sharing your desserts (we get you!), you can grab a cone or pick up some homemade fudge.

Something you must see when you're stopping by is their authentic antique taffy-making machine.

They make their salt-water taffy in house, and it's so cool to watch the taffy-maker weave the delicious candy.

Watch the taffy be pulled and formed, then enjoy a bite (or ten) of all the tasty flavors once it's finished being made!

Beach season is coming up quick, and after a long hot day on the sand, this cute ice cream shop is the perfect place to stop by and cool off.

If you're interested in other places you can satisfy your sweet tooth, the Candy Shack in Houston has candy-filled alcoholic fishbowls that will blow you away.

And since no one can ever have too much ice cream, Jeni's Splendid Ice Cream opened their first Houston location and they have really unique flavors!
