Drive-thru dog pick-ups sound like a dream. Being able to pull-up to an animal shelter, have a dog delivered to your car, and drive off with a new addition to the family to love and care for sounds too good to be true. But it's real, you can do just that because there's curbside foster services at a local Houston shelter!
Sadly, Houston animal shelters are dealing with a lot of overcrowding and are in desperate need of foster homes for their animals.
Harris County Animal Shelter's creative response to COVID-19 safety guidelines and still wanting to be able to help find the animals' good temporary homes is to offer curbside foster services.
Which makes the process of helping out and bringing a dog home to foster insanely easy.
You first send an email to Harris County Animal Shelter to request a dog under 30 pounds or over 30 pounds. This is all depending on what you're more comfortable with and what size of dog your home allows.
HCAS says to make sure you put "Spring Break Foster" in the subject line of your email. This is because these drive-thru foster pick-ups are short term and are meant to help relieve shelters while their intake is going up due to the current crisis.
Once it's time to pick up your new adorable roommate, you'll drive on over to the Houston shelter.
Make sure you have the QLess app to check-in and then just wait until your new temporary pup is brought to your car!
While it is the Harris County shelter, they are allowing foster homes from Brazoria, Galveston, Chambers, Fort Bend, Liberty, Montgomery, and Waller counties to temporarily care for their sweet animals.
Many of us have found ourselves at home for extended periods of time lately, if you're stuck at home or working from home, picking up a new furry housemate while helping out your local shelter sounds like a win-win situation!
