Across the nation, our city's name is on the butt end of countless jokes whenever someone has a problem. The infamous line, "Houston, we have a problem" reminds us, and everyone else, that we are home to Space Center Houston (NASA Johnson Space Center)—the hub that put a man on the moon for the very first time.

The Space Center will host a 9-day celebration this July from the 16th to the 24th, and on July 20th, the 50th anniversary of the moon landing, Space Center Houston is hosting the biggest space party ever.

Whether you're celebrating the first man to step foot on the moon or the greatest hoodwink in American history, there is so much fun to be had.

On July 20th, the day of the 50th anniversary, the opening ceremony kicks off at 9:15 am where you get to hear notable speakers from the Apollo era talk on everything from the lunar landing operations to recovery operations. Book signings will follow.

Then the party will move outside for the grand festival celebration. There will be food and drinks (gosh, I really hope they serve MoonPies), robotic challenges, learning activities, and the Golden Knights will even parachute out of the sky.

Come the evening, the outdoor evening concert will commence and NASA tour trams will be offered. Then, at precisely 9:56 pm, in a live interactive moment, Houston will countdown the exact 50th anniversary of the world-changing moment.

Avaliable experiences are offered in two different packages. The Golden Ticket runs for $20 for members and for $49.95 for nonmembers. This deal gets you general admission and access to the outdoor festival and concert.

The Golden VIP ticket runs for a nice $250—or $212 for members—and gets you access to a pre-party, exclusive tour of the Apollo Mission Control Center, reserved VIP seating, an exclusive dinner, a free folding chair (score!), and parking benefits.

The first 15,000 people to arrive will recieve an LED wristband that glows during the concert experience and the countdown at the "official first steps" countdown at 9:56 pm.

Throughout the 9 days of the fest, there will be a vary array of activities, talks, tours, and more from pop-up science labs to NASA Mission Control Center tours! Prices for all of these events run for different prices, with some being completely free!

Until then, the space center is hosting events all month in celebration. You can view them here

It was one giant leap for man, and one giant celebration for the city of Houston.
