The Houston Zoo Is Transforming Into A Magical Maze Of Lights With Animals This December

The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear!

Well, there are some things you should know about Houston. First off, if you see gum on the street, leave it there. It isn’t free candy. Second, there are, like, 30,000 restaurants. They all claim to be the best. But the best ones are these. And lastly, every year beginning in November, the Houston Zoo transforms into the Zoo Lights every night.

It's like a giant Christmas lights display, but the animals are invited too. The exact date and time are still TBA.

You'll pass through the seven levels of the Candy Cane forest, through the sea of swirly twirly gum drops, and then through the Lincoln Tunnel. Okay, not exactly. But it'll feel like it.

The annual display of lights takes you on a trail through the zoo to see both the animals and the synchronized light displays. Some of the lights even dance to the tune of Christmas music. Einstein sure would be proud.

Some fan-fav hot spots to make sure you check out while you're there include the massive Holiday Tree, the Holiday Train Village (for the kids and the kids at heart), and the Enchanted Forest.

And beware of Candy—the interactive zebra who can talk to you. Or maybe it's just Marty from Madagascar in disguise. The world will never know.

There will be food—at their restaurant Cypress Circle Cafe, and kiosks throughout the event. In years past, there's been DIY s'mores stations and lots of hot chocolate.

The event typically runs through the holiday season and into the new year—so get ready to impress the heck out of those in-laws.

The event is presented by TXU Energy (what, did you think the Zookeepers did all this?), and features fifteen full miles of "earth-friendly" LED displays.

Stay tuned to the Houston Zoo website for more info, and dust off those spaghetti candy recipes. Son of a nutcracker!
