Think back to the days of you in the car driving around during the Winter months, on the hunt to see some holiday lights. Those were good times, but most of the findings were...to be honest, kind of cheesy (AKA giant Santa Cause statues everywhere). Well, we have found a massive display of lights in the River Oaks district of Houston that puts every other neighborhood to shame.
This word-of-mouth offering is free to the public, and these professional light instillations are no joke, plus the houses are massive. In fact, they house some of Houston's wealthiest and most famous residents.
These balls of illumination are there to spread joy and should be enjoyed by all. Whether you are trying to master a Christmas fit pic, going on a date, or just vibing out, it's nearly impossible not to want to snap a few photos along the way.
While the views may be fancy, it's an incredibly welcoming atmosphere. People park all along the streets and walk around, going into yards, sipping cocoa, and quite possibly getting rides in some horse-drawn carriages.
Typically, the lights start to go up closer to Thanksgiving, so it will peak in December and go on all through the new year. If you're from out of town or you're thinking about where to park, just type River Oaks District into your GPS and it will give you a great starting point.
Most Winter Wonderlands charge to show off their lights, but this free spot is even on par with the world's longest light tunnel in the Dallas area. It's kind of a shock that a Houston tradition this incredible would just let the public come and hang out for free. Grab your favorite pumpkin spice drink, we're going to see some lights.
