Summer is soon coming to a close and while you'll be trading in your White Claw for a glass of eggnog, the summer party won't be over at this Texas beach. Competitors and spectators come from far and wide to attend Galveston East Beach's Annual Sandcastle Competition this weekend.

Over 50 teams are in the running to win the Golden Bucket award this year, and their designs only get more intense as the competition grows. These aren't the average sandcastles you can make with a bucket and a shovel, the A.I.A. Sandcastle Competition stands for the American Institute of Architects so the finished product is the real deal made by teams of professional architects.

These designs truly are a sight to behold for anybody looking for an excuse to chill out by a beach with some awesome views. Crowd favorites include beautiful hand-carved dragons, Hawaiin statues, and even silly takes on King Kong and Finding Dory.

It's a blast watching the teams solve problems, and craft their massive pieces of art, but it's the judging at the end of the day that's the most fun part to watch. Keep in mind these are life-size installations that you'll want to snap for the gram

The event is completely free for anybody who makes the trek down to Galveston for the day. You can arrive as early as 9:00 a.m. and judging begins at 3:00 p.m., also visit this website if you are wanting to bring your pet.

The Sandcastle Competition is family-friendly, but don't let that steer you away if you're looking to have a couple of brews and explore the scene with friends. All groups are welcome.

This is one of the more celebrated and chill events coming up on the island. Whether you're just going to check out the good vibes or you're working on your own amateur sandcastle, this is the perfect excuse to dip those toes in the sand.
