I Tried Frank And Oak's Monthly Clothing Subscription Box And Here's My Honest Opinion

It’s the box your closet’s been waiting for.
I Tried Frank And Oak's Monthly Clothing Subscription Box And Here's My Honest Opinion

Alright, I’ll be the first to admit that I find subscription boxes ridiculously tempting. It’s an indisputable fact that they have grown in popularity over the last few years, ranging from beauty products to workout gear and beyond. There’s just something so appealing about getting a box full of random goodies shipped to you every month – it’s the ultimate form of treat yo’self.

Generally, I haven’t been one to indulge in subscription boxes due to their typical priceyness. However, when Frank And Oak announced that they were hopping on board the subscription box bandwagon with their monthly Style Plan service, I was, needless to say, very intrigued. Personally, I’ve been a fan of the environmentally sustainable Canadian apparel company for years, and some of my longterm closet staples were plucked from their collections.  Plus, when I realized Narcity offered $25 off my first Frank and Oak box with the promo code NARCITY25, I was sold.

Not only do they offer styles with timeless, minimal appeal, but they also make an effort to produce their items eco-consciously, adopting the use of recycled wool, cruelty-free insulation, polylife recycled polyester, and more in the creation of their fashion lines. When I went digging a bit further, I discovered that they’ve put together one of the only environmentally sustainable clothing subscription boxes that’s entirely flexible. That's right: You get to make the final call on what gets added to your box, plus you can send back what you don’t want. What’s not to love?

Long story short: I tried Frank And Oak’s monthly Style Plan. How could I not?

How does it work?

The idea is simple. Frank And Oak’s monthly Style Plan is a great way to try out styles from their new collections – without ever leaving your home. First, visit their website and submit some info about yourself, like clothing sizes and personal style preferences. You know, the basics.

Next, you’ll receive a preview of your monthly outfit (curated through a combination of Frank And Oak stylists and AI) by email within a couple of days, which you can either approve or edit. If you choose to make alterations to your box, your stylist will have laid out several other suggestions that fall within your style and colour palette preferences, so you can swap out pieces from your original outfit.

Lastly, wait for your box to arrive. In my case, it only took a short three business days before it landed at my post office. What I love most about this process is the guarantee that you can return anything you’re not crazy about (within seven days of receiving your styles). As long as you keep at least 1 item from your box, you won’t be charged the $25 styling fee. It certainly made for a stress-free subscription experience!

The experience

Alright, now for what was in my box. In general, I’d say my style is rather casual – with a heavy emphasis on black basics. Try as I might, I will always be drawn to a black dress, jacket, or pant like a moth to a flame. That said, the items I opted for from Frank And Oak’s monthly subscription box should come as no shocker.

Item 1: The Debbie High Waisted Skinny Jean in Jet Black

Member Price: $74.50 CAD (regular price $79.50 CAD)

I was already in dire need of a good pair of black jeans, so this was a no-brainer. Although I took a bit of a gamble guessing which size would fit (is it just me or do jean sizes fluctuate? Maybe it’s just me and my on-again-off-again relationship with pizza), I was super pleased to find what I’d chosen fit just fine. These bad boys are super stretchy and perfect for everyday wear or for going out.

Item 2: The Badlands Western Bootie in Croc Black

Member Price: $150 CAD (regular price $169 CAD)

I’m a sucker for boots, so when I saw that these Badlands Western Booties were suggested as part of my Style Plan, I knew they were coming home to me. They’re super chic and versatile, and I’m excited to be able to dress them up or down accordingly. Just a word of caution: I’ve worn them a couple times now and since they are made from real leather, I have gotten blisters while trying to break them in. No pain, no gain, I guess? They’re still hella cute, though.

Item 3: The Good Cotton Boy Tee in Pine

Member Price: $23.50 CAD (regular price $29.50 CAD)

What’s this? A pop of colour?! I decided to spruce up this outfit with a splash of pine green. The quality of this organic cotton tee is worth talking about on its own. I don’t think I’ve ever owned such a soft t-shirt in my entire life! Such a great basic piece to add to my wardrobe.

The final look

Let it be known: I am no social-media influencer or selfie queen. However, it’s safe to say that this Frank And Oak ensemble just BEGS for an OOTD mirror shot (oh god, did I just write that?). While it’s a super casual, back-to-basics kind of look, it suits my everyday life perfectly, and I know I’ll get a whole lot of wear out of each of these items.

Overall, I’m very satisfied with my first Frank And Oak Style Plan experience. Not only does the overall minimalistic aesthetic of Frank And Oak fit my lifestyle, but Style Plan members save time shopping and also get up to 20% off every purchase! I have a feeling that this is just the beginning of my subscription-box love affair – much to the dismay of my credit card balance, but definitely to the pleasure of my closet.

Oh, and the best part? You can try your very own, totally customized Style Plan risk-free (styling fee is waived) and with $25 off your first box if you use the code NARCITY25!
