IKEA Just Reopened 4 Canadian Locations Including Calgary & Edmonton

But things will be different.
IKEA Is Reopening In Edmonton & Calgary As Of Today But There Are New Rules

Attention all shoppers. IKEA just announced the big news that as of Tuesday, May 19, two Alberta locations are reopening in Calgary and Edmonton. The IKEA reopening will also be taking place at two other stores in Canada. For the time being, all additional locations will remain closed until further notice.

According to the IKEA website, Calgary and Edmonton are two of four locations picked to reopen their doors after a long closure.

While previously closed because of COVID-19, the franchise has stated that their company's top priority is the health and safety of workers and customers.

As a result, they have been working in line with recommendations from local government and health authorities to introduce new and enhanced health and safety measures.

While the Calgary and Edmonton location will be opening, not everything will look the same.

The IKEA restaurant and children's play areas will remain closed until further notice. This means no iconic meatballs for now.

The Bristo will be open, but only for takeout.

IKEA has not announced if the stores will install safety measures for workers such as shields at cash registers or mandatory mask use.

Just last week, the government of Alberta announced that safety measures should be taken by businesses that wish to reopen at this time.

Some of these protocols include minimal cash transactions, mask use, and social distancing.

In addition to the two Alberta locations relaunching, stores in Quebec City and Winnipeg will also be opening their doors as of Tuesday, May 19.

This announcement comes just days after the province began Phase 1 of the relaunch strategy allowing for some non-essential businesses to reopen so long as they followed health and safety guidelines.

If you want your IKEA fix but aren't in an area where stores are open, you can try ordering online.

The store is now offering "curbside click and collect" nationwide.

Click and collect works by ordering IKEA products online and for a flat rate of $5, products are shipped to the closest store near you.

You can then pick up your goodies in a safe and contactless environment.

All you need to do is choose a pick-up time slot and you’re set. Once you get to the store, head to the "greeter station" to confirm your order number.

Park in your designated parking spot then wait for someone to bring out your purchases near your car.

The employee will let you know when it is safe to leave your vehicle so until then, sit tight and wait patiently. It's that easy.
