Everyone loves to film in Canada! Film productions often chose to film in different cities because sometimes it's just a lot cheaper than having to pay for permits in places like New York or Chicago. It's even cheaper in Canada, which is why Toronto and Vancouver usually become New York, Boston, or in the case of Netflix's new film, Philadelphia. Netflix released the trailer for its new movie In The Shadown of the Moon, and you can definitely tell it was shot in Toronto.
While productions usually do a good job at masking a city to look like another one, there are so many obvious clues in this new trailer that tell you it was filmed in Toronto...at least for natives of the city.
This new psychological thriller stars Boyd Holbrook and Michael C. Hall and follows "A Philadelphia detective [who] slowly unravels as he nurses a lifelong obsession with an enigmatic female serial killer whose crimes defy explanation."
The trailer looks amazing but I couldn't help but be excited about the Canadian influence that was left in the film.
The trailer right away opens up with a bus crash that uses a TTC bus! Although they have altered the classic red to a more orange color, they obviously used a Toronto public transportation bus.
They also show a scene where characters are in the middle of a chase in a local store. This is actually a store located in Toronto's iconic China Town.
Probably the most obvious giveaway that this movie was filmed in Toronto, is the multiple shots of our underground Subway system! The wall tiles and use of our abandoned Bay station were dead giveaways!
In the Shadow of the Moon starts streaming on Netflix September 27!.
