Air Canada Is Altering Flight Plans In The Middle East After The Deadly Crash In Iran

A deadly plane crash that took place in Iran took the lives of all 176 passengers and crew members. Included among them were 63 Canadians. Now, the Iran plane crash has prompted a response from members of the Canadian Government, including Transport Canada.

In a tweet sent out at 11:55 PM on January 7, the transport Ministry wrote: "We are monitoring the situation closely in the Middle East and are in close contact with the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration."

In a follow-up tweet, the Ministry wrote: "Air Canada, the only Canadian air carrier that operates in the region covered by the FAA NOTAM, has altered its routes to ensure the security of its flights into and over the Middle East."

Twitter responses have been pouring in offering condolences for the victims of the crash and their families, accompanied by the hashtag #PS752.

One of those tweets came from François-Philippe Champagne, Canada's Minister of Foreign Affairs.

He wrote, "Tragic news regarding Ukraine International Airlines Flight 752. Our hearts are with the loved ones of the victims, including many Canadians. I have been in touch with the government of Ukraine. We will continue to keep Canadians informed as the situation evolves. #PS752"

The plane that crashed was a three-year-old Boeing 737-800. Iranian, Ukrainian, Afghan, German, British, and Swedish nationals were also among those killed in the crash.

Officials from Iran have stated that the cause of the crash was mechanical, while Ukrainian officials are waiting for more information before making a decision.

Boeing also responded to the crash on Twitter, writing "This is a tragic event and our heartfelt thoughts are with the crew, passengers, and their families. We are in contact with our airline customers and stand by them in this difficult time. We are ready to assist in any way needed."

The plane crash occurred shortly after Iran launched missiles at bases in Iraq housing U.S. troops.
