Owned by Disney, this streaming service was previously only available in the US. Now it will be making its way north to Canada. Popular shows like The Handmaid's Tale, This Is Us and The Mindy Project are currently available on Hulu. The Handmaid’s Tale is also currently available on Bell Media's streaming service Crave, in Canada.
So what's the reason for this expansion? It's all because of Disney's purchase of Fox, who owns the streaming service, according to Tech Vibes. This means that Hulu will now be co-owned by Disney themselves, NBC Universal and Warner Media. Here's to hoping that more Disney films find their way onto Hulu in Canada!
Disney CEO Bob Iger said that they want to make the most of Hulu’s high volume of content while they build Disney's own streaming service that will be called Disney+.
Don't expect Hulu to be available in 2018 however – it's more likely that the streaming service will be made available to Canadians in 2019 because the acquisition won't be finalized till next year.
There are a ton of shows and films available on Hulu, according to Tech Vibes. Right now on Hulu, there are several popular options, such as their original show The Handmaid's Tale, This Is Us, Marvel's The Runaways, Parks and Recreation, and Seinfield. They also have older shows that are absolute classics, such as Boy Meets World, The O.C. and Dawson's Creek.
The cost of Hulu currently is $5.99 USD a month, which equates to roughly $7.91 CAD a month. The first month is free. In comparison, Netflix Canada is currently $10.99 CAD a month.
