Castles and princesses are just a thing of the past or a thing of fairytales; at least that's what we've been told. If you explore far and wide castles are real and still very much alive. Hidden away near Vilano Beach, Castle Otttis stands out magnificently with all of its gothic-fairytale vibes in the sunny and small St. Augustine Florida.

On the outside of this immaculate stone structure, it feels weirdly angelic and calm, with the architecture bearing a striking resemblance to a Christian Church. It towers over 50 ft. tall as an awe-inspiring landmark along the St. Augustine coast and was officially recognized in 1992 for its beauty by the American Institute of Architects.

This beautiful castle is perfect for some unique shots to add to your Instagram feed. You can create some expressive and artistic photos just because, or even celebrate your own personal fairy-tale with some cute couple's pics.

The building was never intended to become a commercial location, visitor's attraction, or residence, as it was originally created as an expression of art to resemble an old Irish Abbey or Church. The project was started by 2 stonemasons - Ottis Sadler and Rusty Ickes in 1984 and it took them 4 hard working years to complete their truly amazing artistic vision.

Inside the great stone walls, you'll find stunningly beautiful woodwork in the 8 different staircases that wind throughout this castle as well as an altar, benches, pews, and other historic spiritual imagery - all done by the hands of a single man over the course of 3 years, Lee Carpenter.

Throughout its entirety, Castle Otttis has 88 windows to look down and admire the world below. Not a single window has any glass it in either, which allows all of that gorgeous sunlight in, and leaves it completely open to the elements.

The castle isn't generally open to the public without an appointment, but this privately owned work of art hosts public interdenominational Christian worship service on the final Sunday of every month at 10 am; however, the property opens up at 9:30 am so you can show up a bit early to check out this masterpiece. They are also super inclusive and welcome anyone regardless of your beliefs, ethnicity, culture, or sexual orientation.

While the castle is not usually open to the public and if you're not too keen on going to a worship service, you can still schedule a group tour with your family or friends by giving them a call. They even offer the option to host wedding ceremonies here that are certain to make any woman feel like a princess on her big day.
