At the time of his arrest, the Toronto Police had shared a mugshot and press release for more information. The reason behind this was due to their worry that more people had been victims of Hoggard, so making him easily identifiable is important.

The press release also shared that Hoggard would be seen in court today at 2:00 PM. It was unclear if it was a bail hearing or just the beginning of his trial, but now his lawyer has spoken out after his first court appearance.

What his lawyer, Ian Smith, shared with the press, "I am, of course, aware that there is a not insignificant level of public interest in this case and in particular, the position of Mr Hoggard, with the respect of the allegations that have been made against him. However, this matter is now before the court and I do not expect to make any public comments about the case, other than the comments I make in court. Mr Hoggard's position will become clear in due course and as appropriate as the matter proceeds through the courts.

It was also confirmed during the court appearance today that a publication ban will be put in place during the trial. This helps secure the identity of people accusing Hoggard of these actions.

UPDATE: Hoggard’s case will return to court August 15. Publication ban is ordered on names of complainants

The reason the publication band is not surprising is due to the safety of the victims. Fans have been quick to react to the current claims and have been defending Hoggard's actions.

The claims that are being seen in court currently were from three separate incidences over 2016. Hoggard's three charges include one count of sexual interference, which would involve a victim who is not over the legal age of consent (in Ontario it is 16 years old).

Currently, any allegations made on social media are being forwarded to the Toronto Police to investigate. Many people had come forward earlier this year with claims against the singer.

The Toronto police were previously investigating the singer but clearly found enough evidence to take Hoggard to court.

Just so that Everyone is aware: ANY and ALL sexual allegations made against Jacob Hoggard, or any other member of Hedley, on any social media platform, WILL have their allegations immediately forwarded to The Toronto Police for investigation, as per their request. #OutHedley2k18
