Don Cherry's recent comments about immigrants and Remembrance Day have caught the attention of Canadians. Some of the responses have been negative, while others have supported what Cherry had to say. Other responses, however, wanted to shed light on immigrants who fought for Canada. NDP leader Jagmeet Singh's response to Don Cherry highlighted the efforts of one of his family members.
"Don, let me introduce you to '#youpeople'," Singh wrote on Twitter. "My great grandfather, Hira Singh, who served in WW1 & WW2 under the British. We honour all who served. #RemembranceSunday."
The #youpeople hashtag that Singh used in his tweet was in direct reference to Don Cherry's remarks during a Hockey Night In Canada broadcast.
While discussing Remembrance Day, particularly wearing a poppy, Cherry said, "You people love, that come here, whatever it is, you love our way of life, you love our milk and honey, at least you can pay a couple bucks for a poppy or something like that."
Singh continued his response in a second tweet, writing, "All sorts of people have served and paid the ultimate sacrifice in the name of Canada. Women, immigrants, LGBTQ2S Cdns, Indigenous people. There is no '#youpeople'. We’re all as Canadian as the next. We honour all who served. That's what Canada is all about. #RemembranceSunday."

Jagmeet Singh was not the only politician to share a response to Don Cherry's remarks. Justin Trudeau retweeted a response from Minister of National Defence Harjit Sajjan, which included seven tweets about immigrants and women who served for Canada.
"Last night, Don Cherry made comments that are wrong in describing Canadians' remembrance of our veterans," Sajjan wrote in his first tweet.
"His remarks don't recognize the contribution of Canada's diverse communities. I hope we can turn this into a moment where we can learn about about all who have served."

Sportsnet and Ron MacLean both apologized after Don Cherry's comments. Cherry has yet to make a statement.
