Jean Machine Is Finally Closing All Of Its Stores In Ontario And Honestly, Who Is Surprised?

After 42 years in the biz, Ontario's least relevant denim retailer is officially closing all of its 24 stores in early 2019. The stores will slowly begin to shut down starting this Christmas season, with all the locations slated to be fully shut down by late February 2019. Their online store will also be non-operational as of the new year.

The retailer made the sad announcement on Twitter yesterday and, surprise, hardly anyone cared. The tweet got a pitiful 5 retweets and a single like.

To our valued customers - a very important message 💙

The retailer did get some love on Instagram, though. Their announcement got over 100 comments from customers and employees who are sad to see the jean shop go. "Working at jean machine for almost 4 years it breaks my heart to see this," one person commented, "Such a great company and such great products. I will miss jean machine endlessly."

Jean Machine's decision to shutter all of its locations in Ontario was likely a difficult one to make. The store launched a rebrand to appeal to an older demographic in 2017 after they were acquired by a Vancouver-based retail company. But, even that couldn't save them from bankruptcy, which the retailer filed in January 2017.

If you live in Ontario, you likely have a Jean Machinelocation near you - even though you've probably never noticed. They've got locations in nearly every larger city in the province, including Toronto, Ottawa, Barrie, Guelph, Markham, Burlington, Etobicoke, Oshawa, London, Hamilton, even North Bay. The Yorkdale Mall location in northern Toronto is considered their flagship, which has been the company's go-to store to test out renovations.

For those of you who still shop there, please be advised that as of yesterday, all sales at Jean Machine are final. You'll no longer be able to return anything in store or online. If you have a gift card to Jean Machine, you better use it ASAP because those will also be invalid as of January 31st.
