Jim Carrey Lived In Quite A Few Ontario Hotspots Before Making It Big In Hollywood

You know him from dozens of movies starting in the early 80s as the most iconic characters that are still loved and appreciated today. Though he's worked his way up the ladder of incredibly talented and successful actors, Jim Carrey's life before fame included moving around to different cities in Ontario. 

The 57-year-old was born on January 17, 1962 in Newmarket with the birth name James Eugene Carrey. His parents are Kathleen and Percy and he's the youngest of four kids named John, Patricia, and Rita.

According to IMDb, "The family surname was originally 'Carré', and he has French-Canadian, Scottish, and Irish ancestry."

Carrey is knowing for his hilarious and unique sense of humour, which according to Biography, started with him doing stand up comedy at just 15 years old in Toronto comedy clubs. 

They wrote that at 17 years old, he was able to leave his job as a janitor in a factory to be "the opening act for successful comics Buddy Hackett and Rodney Dangerfield." That was in 1979, right before he had his very first on-screen role in a 1981 movie as Tony Moroni in Rubberface. 

Though born in Newmarket, the actor actually spent the bulk of his childhood growing up in Scarborough.

IMDb wrote that he and his family were "forced to relocate" to the Toronto suburb and that "they all took security and janitorial jobs in the Titan Wheels factory, Jim working 8-hour shifts after school let out."

However, the Carrey family continued doing more moving around taking their four children with them.

That led the successful actor to "briefly attend Aldershot High School in Burlington, Ontario" according to IMDb.

The Richest wrote that in an interview with "Hamilton Spectator in 2007, he said he would probably be working in Hamilton, Ontario at the Dofasco steel mill if his career in show business hadn’t been a success."

Toronto was the first to see his stand up work but Los Angeles is where he moved to really make it big and make a name for himself. 

Biography wrote that relocating there gave him the opportunity to get "a spot on the sketch comedy show In Living Color." He starred in the TV series from 1992 to 1994.

By the early 2000s, Carrey was starring in big box office movies including Yes Man in 2008 which was his highest-earning movie that paid out $35 million despite pretty low reviews.

On Rotten Tomatoes, his best-rated movie is Under the Sea 3D which he narrated and it earned 94%. After that, comes The Truman Show with 94%, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind with 93%, and Liar Liar with 81%.
