Back in October, the city council voted to allow Las Vegas parking tickets to be paid in full using food donations instead of cash. The donations will come in time for the holidays for those in need. This special program isn't the first initiative the city has taken that waives the cash fee for supplies.
If you have received a non-public safety violation between October 16 and November 16, 2019, you may qualify for this unique program until December 16, 2019.
In order to pay your balance off in full, you can donate non-perishable food items that are of equal or greater value of the fine received.
The accepted food items will be donated to the nonprofit program, Helping Hands of Vegas Valley. They help disabled and low-income senior citizens.
Supplies must be dropped off at Parking Services Offices in Las Vegas within 30 days of the citation's date. You'll also need to bring proof of purchase receipt for the items being donated.
The deadline to pay off fines with food donations is December 16, 2019. There are only 10 days left to participate in this program.
If you're unsure if your ticket qualifies for the program, below is a list of fines that are excluded from it:
- Handicap violations
- Parking along a red curb
- Parked 18-inches from the curb
- Blocking an alley
- Parking in a fire lane
- Vehicle in non-parking areas
- Fire lane
- Traffic hazard
- No stopping
- Bike lanes
- Blocking or facing traffic
- Too close to intersection, crosswalk or stop/yield sign
If you are unsure if your citation is covered under the donations instead of cash policy, it's best to visit the City of Las Vegas page or contact the city's parking service facility.
