Chances are good that you've waited your whole life for this moment: your first year of university. Expectations are obviously high, based on all the crazy stories you've heard, and what you've seen on shows like Blue Mountain State.
This is one part of your life that you'll never get to relive, so make sure you take full advantage of every opportunity handed to you. Study hard, obviously, but make sure you treat yourself and make a lot of memories. We've compiled an awesome, crazy list of things you HAVE to do this year. How many can you cross off?
1. Pull an all-nighter
This one's a given. Whether you were up all night finishing a project you procrastinated on, or out all night dancing w friends, you will definitely pull at least one of these.
2. Actually get a full 8 hours of sleep every night for a week
HAHAHAH. As if. If you can pull this one off, I salute you. This one might not seem as fun/crazy as some of the other things we've included, but if you can do it, you'll thank yourself. Sleep is a necessity if you want to survive uni.
3. Go on a tinder date
Free food, amirite? Even if it doesn't go well, chances are you'll get a funny story out of it that you and your friends can laugh at for years down the road. Or maybe you'll fall in love and get married, who knows?
4. FRESHMAN CHUG
You will undoubtedly hear this chanted multiple times throughout the coming weeks. Bottoms up.
5. Host your own party
Even if you weren't the most social in high school, uni can be a really great opportunity for you to branch out and meet new friends. Even if it's just a small get together with friends from class, you can cross this one off.
6. Do the walk of shame
We've all been there, so is it really that shameful? Just hope not too many people see you running across campus in your dress from last night at 6 a.m.
7. Spend the night at another university
The worst part about uni is that you don't get to see your high school friends every day anymore. That doesn't mean you can't see them at all, though. Reunite with your old pals and crash is their dorms for the night, whether it's in the same city, or across the province.
8. Avoid eating any kind of take out for a week
This one is a lot harder than it seems. I know a lot of uni students who survive solely on pizza, pasta, and alcohol. If your school is on a meal plan, this might be hard, but if you can, cook for yourself every day for a week. Your body will thank you.
9. Visit all the most popular bars/clubs in town
Even if you're not a drinker, it can be fun to grab some pub food, go dancing, or catch up with friends. It's also a really great way to get to know the city around you.
10. Go on a weekend road trip with your new friends/roommates
Book an Airbnb, and hit the road to the nearest cool destination. Every province has super cool things to check out, so what better time than the present?
11. Invent your own signature drink
Tired of the same old vodka cran? Switch it up and try something new. Pinterest is always a great place for cocktail ideas, or you can get creative on your own.
12. Participate in a school-run sporting event
Lots of universities hold back to school marathons, or football/hockey games. Even if you're not athletic, head out with some friends and check out the events. It's always a great way to make new friends and a great Instagram photo-op.
13. Make at least one friend in every class
I'm not talking just an "only talk during class" friend, I mean someone that you'll actually hang out with and get to know. Sometimes these ones end up being the best life-long friends.
14. Keg Stand
Every university movie ever features one of these. I have yet to actually see one at a party, but maybe I'm just hanging out in the wrong places. Anyways, if you have the opportunity, take advantage of it.
15. DJ a party
Only if you have good music taste, please. If music is your thing, and making playlists is your jam, don't be afraid to speak up and take over the AUX cord.
16. Make friends with someone while drunk in the bathroom
This will probably happen whether you want it to or not. Drunk girls in bathrooms are literally the friendliest people you'll ever meet; I actually met my best friend in the club bathroom on my birthday during my first year. No regrets.
17. Say yes to everything you're invited to
Especially if you're not usually one to go out. Party on the 4th floor? Head on up. Study group on Tuesday? Grab your textbooks. Honestly, just get out, and get social.
18. Participate in a campus wide tradition
Or start your own, if your school doesn't have one. Whether it be a back to school party, a sporting event, or a dress up theme, join in.
19. Hit the gym
If your school offers a free gym membership, USE IT. The freshman fifteen can be real if you don't take care of yourself properly, but it doesn't have to be.
20. Take as many photos as you can
This semester is going to fly by, and you may not remember every little detail, but you're going to wish you did. Always take pictures of the things that mean a lot to you. You don't need to post them anywhere, but they're always nice to look at and reminisce on.
