Whether you are a hardcore gamer or not, Mario Kart is a soft spot for anybody who's childhood revolved around getting all your friends together around a Wii to battle it out on Rainbow Road. Though, with the Wii practically irrelevant at this point (and many people not grabbing the Wii U) with it Mario Kart, unfortunately, faded into the background... that is until today.
It turns out Nintendo is finally acknowledging tons of fans' request to bring the well-loved game to mobile devices with its very own Mario Kart app! They took to Twitter to release a cryptic announcement:
So it's clear that this is definitely not a rumour and in fact sources have released that the game is currently in development and will be formally known as "Mario Kart Tour." The only sad to this great news is that the launch date will be set in between a pretty big gap, April 2018 - March 2019, meaning we've most likely got a long way to go before we can race it out with our friends on our phones.
Though the news, in general, is quite surprising considering up until recently Nintendo actively refused to bring most of their classics to mobile devices because they didn't want to ruin the experience. Considering the games were initially made for classic gameplay, rather than on a small phone screen.
Luckily for us though Nintendo's change in tune has resulted in games like Miitopia, Super Mario Run and the ever so successful launch of Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp hitting mobile app stores. Meaning if they are now ready to bring over one of their most popular games to mobile, there has got to be a lot more in store for Nintendo mobile games in the near future for us to look forward to!
