Gone are the days when celebrities would rock up on the red carpet head-to-toe in accessories expensive enough to make us cry into our minimum wage paycheques.
Affordable is Hollywood's latest trend, and it's one we can definitely get on board with.
Proving that thrifty is the new swanky, last week's Golden Globes saw Gal Gadot step out wearing $6 Revlon lipstick and Angelina Jolie painted her nails with $10 polish. But it was Margot Robbie's hair that really stole the show.
Perched on the side of her bun was a black bow that had been tied out of velvet ribbon. The ends had been left long and trailed down the actress' neck - it was so effortless it looked like a 2nd grader tied it. It's not clear exactly how much the accessory cost her, but go to any craft store and you'll be able to find velvet ribbon for under $1, in any length, width or colour you want.
The simple adornment is easy replicable and one of the most effortless looks we've seen on the red carpet. Better yet, pretty much every trendy celebrity is wearing it.
Black ribbons ascended to true trend status at the 2017 Golden Globes award ceremony - and not just in celebrities' hair. It was reimagined in every way possible with A-listers using it to accent their dresses, tie up their hair and bring together their overall look.
Michelle Williams stole the show with the accessory when she swapped out a diamond necklace for a simple black velvet ribbon. Sienna Miller used one to secure her messy ponytail. And much like Margot Robbie, Riley Keough jumped on trend by tying a thick ribbon around her bun.
Other stars like Mandy Moore and Emily Ratajkowski have also been seen rocking the trend, but this isn't the first time the classic black ribbon has reigned supreme. Back in 2014, the look hit peak fever on the Spring Summer fashion week runways, but it disappeared almost as quickly as it appeared, and boy, are we glad it's back.
